Match Report - Apr 08, 2006

Final Score: 2-0 (Peter 2)

Players: Chai Liang, Danial, Francis, Hai Yee, Peter, Steven, Tony, YK, Charlie, Johnny, Jufri

The Game: This game we were short of players and the Whites surprisingly gave us 2 of their prized players - Johnny and Jufri. With some of our regulars missing and the addition of Whites in our team, it gave us opportunity to shuffle our players a bit in the defence area.

Danial and Steven were assigned the left and right respectively while Chai Liang was moved to the partner Francis in central. Hai Yee, as expected, took the position of right wing, in absence of Choong Wei, who decided babes chasing in Sentosa is more fun than ball chasing in St Wilfrid.

Jufri made a handful of onside run, while Peter successfully 'dodge' the big sized Dave ( I need to get some advice from him) Hai Yee played well on the right with his crosses, but unlike CW who runs straight he had tendency to curve his run outwards.

Danial and Steven covered their turf well, with Francis and Chai Liang providing the second line of defence. YK's ball wizardry seemed somewhat affected by his injured ankle. Tony as usual did his 'job'. Charlie played a bit more defensive today than usual.

Francis and Chai Liang made a pact to have only either one central defence stay back, while the other free to move up and help, depending on situation. Francis literally took it upon himself to bring the ball all the way up to meet Boon Huat at the other end. If only he scored that ...

We took the lead in the first half when Hai Yee made a perfect cross for the lone Peter, who calmly converted the goal. However, in another instance, when Jufri's cross and unexpectedly passed 2 White defenders, but Peter ballooned the ball with just the open net less than a metre from him.

With a goal lead, the pressure were on us, when the Whites repeatedly intimidated our midfield and defence. For the defenders it is good to see almost everyone coming back to help in the defence, especially in the second half.

The game only ended 90min later when Peter redeemed himself with the second goal on counter attack.

Great job everyone for the well deserved win and clean sheet!

Team captain sums it up: "Everyone plays very well (some even carrying with injury), with defence exceptionally brilliant..."

Injury: YK is still carrying an injured ankle (YK, see I wrote it now) refusing massage with our official Upper Paya Lebar Chinese doctor nor Geylang specialists.

David had hand cut requiring 4 stitches.. Hope he is OK.
