Final Score: Score: 1-0 (Peter)
Players: Chai Liang, Choong Wei, Danial, David, Francis, Hai Yee, Peter, Steven, Wyai Kay, Charlie, Naim
The Game: The World Cup began in the morning at midnite with Germany vs Costa Rica prior to our game. The effect was clearly evident, when most players from both sides arrived late coming in with Panda eyes. We started late, again.. with 10 players before the late comers make up the numbers.
This week we were determined to make up for the last few losses. Even though we had several 'key' players were missing (did we miss them?) and the Whites had the return of some of their stronger midfielders.
With Tony missing our line up was a bit peculiar. Peter took the role of lone striker, while the rest of us fit into every space in mid field and defence, most of us in usual positions. Choong Wei, however, decided to spearhead the left flank this time while letting Hai Yee have the fun of harrasing the Whites from the right. Their position was later swapped. Or did they not? :)
Our late comer Naim, came in with a free role without any fixed position. The 'unrestrictive' position from most of us, to some extent, allow us more flexibility and perhaps confuses the Whites.
We were rewarded when Charlie chip in a rebound off a diving save from Boon Huat, for our first goal in the first half. Naim missed a low cross a metre from goal, while Choong Wei blasted wide.
Danial pulled off several saves. And we limited the Whites to long shots. And good job everyone for covering one another while in defence. And most importantly we fight for every ball.
The game ended when Johnny caught Peter's leg in the box. A clear penalty situation, but it was not taken.
Perhaps we had some inspiration come from the World Cup... We did what the Japanese cannot, against the Aussies - hold our lead.
Quotes of the day:
"Where do I play?" - Naim, at half time, after a fist half covering almost every corners of the field.
"It must be Tony.." - Peter
Injury: Chai Liang ankle and toe studded. Some lost sleep.
NB: Sorry for late report, got too busy, with daily badminton and daily World cup updates
Vacancies: Weekly blog reporters - To take turns reporting, and offer alternative game analysis, reviews and comments. We need people who dare to be critical.

Additional Notes: Choong Wei actually hit the post from close range, and Peter missed the subsequent rebound because he was too close. Also, at times, both Francis and David moved upfront in attacking role ...
