Match Report - Feb 11, 2006

Final Score:1-2 (Hai Yee; Ah Joon, the Chinese candidate)

Players: Chai Liang, Choong Wei, Daniel, Hai Yee, Peter, Steven, YK, Charlie, David, Ajis, Chee Hua

The Game: We had exactly 11 players while the Great Whites had an extra man. Play started promptly at 7:30am - something that has not happened in a long time.

The Great Whites were the more enterprising team today, closing in quickly on our strikers and midfield. Their efforts paid off in the 17th minute with a long range drive by Ah Joon. They continued to dominate and was unlucky not to stretch their lead. Hamdan's control in midfield was missed, as was Tony's (though we hate to admit it) influence.

The game was deadlocked at 0-1 after that.

We started the second half in search of the equaliser. Hai Yee provided the spark in midfield with some good runs on the left flank. Johnny, however, seemed impregnable, pulling off a string of crucial interventions as well as a fine save from Hai Yee's 72nd minute effort. The equaliser came very late in the second half. Hai Yee blasted the ball home, after some good running to get into a goal scoring position.

With just 5 minutes left, the game hanged in the balance. Off an attack launched from midfield, the Great Whites slotted home at the 90th minute after some good possession play. The Chinese candidate, left unmarked, coolly directed the ball off the bottom right and into goal for a last gasped winner.

We came to the conclusion that it could be due to the return of Tony to Singapore soil. And we did not have the opportunity to don the Selangor colours today.

Injury: Defeated - and the annual Lo Hei dinner will not take place in the Year of the Dog.
